I will grant the DIR this huge success... getting people 'thinking'. Sometimes
they seem like the lunatic fringe but every sport needs people who are pushing expanding the limits. Some changes will stay some won't, just as they have in the past. The more divers wonder about their gear and the way it is rigged the better off they will be. The attitude of 'doing it right' makes a ton of sense.... regardless of the particular parts or system you are using. I am not ready to sign up with all the DIR gear changes but the concept of trying to be safe and taking diving seriously is a good thing. Heck if everyone dove the way they were trained (PADI/NAUI/SSI/YMCA or other alphabet soup) the sport would be safer. Gear rigging is the least of the worries- Divers not understanding concepts of deco, ocean currents, and limitations of gear all much bigger issues IMHO. Blue Skies and Calm Seas, Andrew |
