Some people have said in the past that a person not adhering to DIR is a stroke. This is not entirely correct. A person can still use a DIR configuration and still behave in a unresponsible manner. I have made a profile of a "stroke". All items must be fulfilled in order to call a person a "stroke". Calling someone a "stroke" solely on basis of strokegear is not entirely correct, all items of the profile should apply. So you might have someone who actually never heard of DIR but still is a caring and responsible person. He is just ignorant of the fact that he can improve on his gear (and safety) dramatically by using the DIR approach. Feel free to comment. DIR always, Xavier http://www.ping.be/safe-diving/index.htm How to recognize a "stroke" He does not want to learn from any mistake at all He tries to hide his faulty knowledge and missing skills He hides behind "personal preference" and does not explain why He denies his own mistakes and rather blames everybody else He pretends never to have heard of rule number one He does not feel responsible at all He is a diving accident waiting to happen He is a person to avoid on all accounts Some other (older) pointers of interest regarding strokes: http://www.media.demon.co.uk/karmadivers/stories/realmen.html http://www.sfdj.com/spring/rule.html http://www.wkpp.org/articles/Gear/newgeorge.html http://x57.deja.com/getdoc.xp?AN=662423451 |
