It was an aluminum tank that blew in the Florida
Keys last week. The accident took the leg of the man filling the tank and still threatens to end his life. This latest cylinder failure was a 1985 Aluminum 80. That would make the cylinder alloy 6351-T6 and the same kind that damaged the hand of Chris Hawkens. Early reports indicate that the cylinder did not have a current hydro and was not carrying a Visual Plus inspection sticker. This information comes from reliable sources that work in the diving industry and have visited the scene of the accident since the explosion. I have not seen the cylinder nor have I personally visited the site. Skip skip@force-e.com |
