I've actually been able to **lightly and slowly** pet nurse sharks on several different dives over the years....but always on their tail when they are resting on the bottom and never for more than a few touches. I would never put my hand near their head or mouth. I don't know any of my diver friends who have ever been bothered by a nurse shark or by a barracuda. I once was doing my safety stop and had a 5 ft barracuda watching me intently as he kept slowly getting closer. I got spooked enough to get out of the water before my safety stop was up when he was about 3 ft away. Other divers followed my dive and he got very close to them too but didn't harm anyone. I am more afraid of eels than nurse sharks and I don't think your friends have anything |
