Hi everyone,
I will be taking a cruise (Western Caribbean) sometime next year and I am interested in scuba diving at its ports of call, Cozumel and/or Grand Cayman. I was informed that I need a certification before a can take a dive. Is PADI sufficient and acceptable to those islands? I just noticed that there are more than one types of scuba dive certification so I want to make sure I am taking the right one. I am still not sure whether scuba diving is for me or not (I'm content with the simplicity of snorkeling) so I am interested in taking a minimal but safe requirement to take a dive. I found a 4-week course, PADI Open Water Scuba Course, charging about $145 + $59.95 per person (crew package: book, record file, RDP dive table, log book, and PIC photograph). They deliver all SCUBA equipment to the pool and dive sites plus 3 free scuba rentals (after certified) as a bonus. But I must supply the following: mask, fins, snorkel, booties and gloves. Is that a good deal? Is there anything that I need to know in selecting the right training and certification? Any advice would be appreciated including how I could best approach this scuba diving trial without getting disappointed or wasting too much money.
