Just returned from a week in Bonaire last night.
First time at the Carib Inn and my hat is off to Bruce Bowker and the entire staff at the Inn. They deliver the most bang for the buck on Bonaire. It's no wonder that Bruce has repeat business coming back again and again. Outstanding! Bad news I visited some of the damaged reefs from last years "wave action" Sharon's Serenity on Klein Bonaire's west side has no shallow reef remaining. Pink Beach has almost no shallow reef remaining and the skeletons of the shallow soft corals litter the reef slope. Harbor Village has plans to expand on the other side of the marine and this could impact one of the premier macro photography sites. Good news The sites that were undamaged by Lenny are in fine shape. Karpata, which had bad coral bleaching a couple of years ago, has come back strong. Even the badly damaged sites had good fish life in the rubble zone. Resort report Renovations are well underway at the Divi Flamingo. It looks like they're finally sinking some money into this property. Most of the former staff from the Green Parrot are now at the Chibi Chibi restaurant at Flamingo or DenLaman. Speaking of the Green Parrot, a new restaurant is under construction next to the pool. Framing is done and the roof is on, but it looks like they're a least a couple of months away from operation. It will not be run by the former Green Parrot people. Sand Dollar is lagging behind the other resorts in their post Lenny recovery. IMHO, Capt. Don's Habitat is leading the pack in the northern hotel zone. Others, I'm sure, would cast a vote for Harbor Village or Buddy's. Stick a fork in the former Hotel Bonaire a.k.a. Sunset Beach Hotel, it's done! Etc Richard's is back. Rain's Fish was also excellent. |
